\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hiking the Emerald Pools Trail: What You Need to Know<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This very family friendly hike takes you to both of the Emerald Pools and their beautiful waterfalls. This trail is paved from the shuttle stop to the Lower Emerald Pool. The trail from there to the Upper Emerald Pool is mixed with rocks and sand and can be slippery. Be cautious with small children. It is a popular hike, so hike early in the day or during the evening to avoid the crowds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TRAILHEAD:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Emerald Pools hike begins at <strong>Shuttle Stop 5: Zion Lodge<\/strong>.  The total distance from the shuttle stop to the Upper Emerald pool and back is about 2.2 miles. After you get off of the shuttle follow the signs to cross the main road to the trailhead. This part of the trail is paved and takes you behind a waterfall and to the Lower Emerald Pool. It is also mostly shaded for the majority of the day. It is just under 0.5 miles from the Shuttle Stop to the Lower Emerald Pool. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the Lower Emerald Pool, you can continue up the trail another 0.4 miles to the Upper Emerald Pool. This part of the trail is not paved and is mixed with rock steps and sand\/dirt. The sand on the rocks can be slippery, so be careful not to lose your footing. Once at the top, you will find another waterfall that fills up the Upper Emerald Pool. There are lots of rocks and boulders surrounding the pool which makes this an excellent spot to sit and have a quick snack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><strong><em>Savvy Sojourner Tip: <\/em><\/strong>Don&#8217;t forget your camera. Along the trail, you will get amazing views of Zion Canyon in addition to the Emerald Pools. Deer and other wildlife are also known to hang around the green grass of Zion Lodge. I bring two water bottles (32oz or larger) per person when hiking. Hiking with heat and\/or altitude can cause you to dehydrate quickly and Zion has both. There are water refill stations located at the Visitors Center.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hiking Sticks<\/strong><br>Hiking sticks may help you navigate the sandy section of the trail to the Upper Emerald Pool. If you find it helpful on your knees to use hiking sticks for hiking uphill or downhill, you will want to make sure to bring them on this hike. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Salty Snacks<\/strong><br>Replenishing your electrolytes is always important, but especially when hiking in the heat. Salty snacks and electrolyte mixes (such as Liquid IV) for your water bottle are a great way to make sure you stay hydrated. Some of my favorites are jerky, pretzels, and roasted nuts or trail mix.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sun Protection<\/strong><br>Make sure to apply (and reapply) sunscreen often, wear long sleeves, and never forget a hat that shades your face and neck!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Phone\/Camera<\/strong><br>There are so many great photo opportunities along this hike. Also, make sure that your cell phone has a full charge when you start your hike.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>First Aid Kit<\/strong><br>It is always a good idea to pack a small first aid kit in your hiking backpack. I like to include bandaids, Advil, items for scrapes, and moleskin for blisters in my hiking first aid kit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Last Minute Advice&#8230;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to hiking my number one piece of advice is to stop and enjoy where you are! Hiking is about the journey as much as it is about the destination. So make sure to look around, enjoy where you are, and soak in your surroundings!
